A tragedy took place in Selma, Alabama, late last week leaving one innocent bystander dead and a community in fear.
According to several news outlets, around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, 40-year-old Marcus Martin went to Walmart at 1501 AL Hwy 14 East in Selma. He never returned home.
Before Martin arrived at the shopping center, an altercation occurred inside the store that carried over into the parking lot resulting in several gunshots being fired, hitting multiple cars, and ultimately killing Martin while he was still inside his vehicle.
WSFA reported that a witness spoke about the deadly incident.
“All you heard was bullets flying,” said Shanequa Peoples. “I mean, there were so many you couldn’t even count.”
Dallas County District Attorney Robert Turner Jr. issued the following statement to the public on the night of the shooting:
“The 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office is deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic shooting that took place tonight at Walmart.” said Turner Jr. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone in our community affected by this senseless act of violence.”
“At this time, law enforcement is actively investigating the incident. While details remain uncertain, we are working closely with local, state, and federal authorities to gather all available evidence and ensure that justice is served. We urge the public to remain patient as the investigation unfolds, and we will share verified updates as soon as they become available.”
Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. confirmed that two suspects had been arrested for the murder, but he did not release their names.
Family members have set up a GoFundMe account for his funeral expenses. Community members are invited to contribute to the fund.
