Uber has donated 800 meals to workers at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital who are on the frontlines of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to information obtained by Yellowhammer News, the donation is being made through Uber Eats, the company’s food delivery service.
The 800 meals will each have a value of up to $25, with workers being able to order from any local restaurant that utilizes Uber Eats.
Uber’s donation to UAB is a part of its recently announced commitment to provide 10 million free rides and food deliveries to frontline workers and others in need across the country.
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, wrote, “This is just the beginning. We’re ready to work with more cities, food banks, hospitals and others around the world to move whatever matters most to them.”
Organizations, health care providers and governmental entities looking for support with rides or food deliveries can submit their request directly through the form here. This is how UAB received its donation.
“Thank you to the healthcare workers who are saving lives,” Khosrowshahi said. “Thank you to the drivers, delivery people and restaurants who are supporting them. And thank you to all the riders who are doing their part by staying home.”
“Working together, we can stop this virus and help our communities recover,” the CEO concluded.
