The UAB Blazers have had a rough go of it over the last coupe of years under head coach Trent Dilfer, going 4-8 in 2023 before a 3-9 season in 2024 that left Dilfer on the hot seat going into 2025.
While Dilfer’s fate has yet to be decided, incidents like his team had on Saturday afternoon are not going to help his case. In the first quarter, Blazers safety Sirad Bryant was captured stomping on the foot of of Tennessee kicker Max Gilbert after an extra point attempt, something which did not go noticed by officials.
After the game, Dilfer said he saw a video of what occurred, and that Bryant would be disciplined.
Bryant also posted an apology on his social media page in which he admitted to what it looked like he did and asked for forgiveness.
“First off I would like to apologize to Max Gilbert for stepping on his foot,” Bryant said.
“Not only that, I would like to apologize to my teammates, coaches and also to Blazer Nation. What I did was inexcusable no matter the circumstances. I am better than that and take full accountability for my actions. It is not a representation of who I am as a player and person.”
UAB wound up losing the game 56-24, a matchup they were obviously not expected to win. The incident is just another negative spotlight though for a program who did not need any negative attention.
