University of Alabama President Dr. Stuart Bell has been named president of the Southeastern Conference’s Executive Committee. He will serve a two-year term.
Bell will primarily be responsible for approving the SEC’s annual operating budget and overseeing all financial and fiscal affairs of the conference as administered by the commissioner.
The committee is composed of three officers and four members elected during the regular annual conference meeting. The elected roles include a chief executive officer, director of athletics, senior woman administrator, and faculty athletics representative.
Bell, who became president of Alabama in 2015, has a longstanding relationship with the Capstone, having served for 16 years as a faculty member and department head of mechanical engineering.

Before taking the reins as UA’s president, Bell was a vice president and provost at LSU.
His tenure as president has been marked by increased student retention and graduation rates, along with an expanded faculty headcount and unprecedented fundraising success.
Also on the committee are University of Tennessee Chancellor Dr. Donde Plowman, vice president, and University of Mississippi faculty representative Ron Rychlak, who will continue his role as secretary.
Incoming member Dr. Mun Choi, president of the University of Missouri, will become vice president in 2025. The ongoing members of the committee are Hunter Yurachek, director of athletics at the University of Arkansas; Ann Carr, senior woman administrator at Mississippi State; and Dr. Paul Batista, faculty athletics representative at Texas A&M.
