U.S. Supreme Court ‘strikes a critical blow’ to unelected bureaucrats, Alabama leaders celebrate

The Supreme Court overturned the 40-year-old Chevron decision, which enabled federal agencies to control regulation over a wide range of government functions, often leading to an overreach of bureaucratic power without adequate legislative or judicial checks. In the majority ruling, Chief Justice John Roberts said clearly that courts must now independently judge agency actions.

Alabama leaders are praising the decision as a major kenneling of the bureaucratic state.

The Court ruled in both Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless v. Department of Commerce that regulatory agencies can add new interpretations to vague legislation. This effectively overturns the 1984 Chevron v. National Resources Defense Council case that extended the power of the Washington D.C. bureaucracy.

“Today the Supreme Court restored two fundamental principles of fairness,” Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said.

This ruling restores power to the American people and strikes a critical blow to the administrative state,” U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said. “A great win for the Constitution and separation of powers.”

“Our bloated bureaucracy should NEVER get to decide its own powers, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said. “The Chevron decision is a massive win for our country and a blow to our weaponized government!”

“Today’s decision is a major win for the American people that will help rein in the out-of-control administrative state,” said U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery). “Unelected bureaucrats should be responsible for following the laws that Congress passes—not making law through executive rulemakings.”

The overturning of the Chevron doctrine is a BIG WIN for the American people, businesses, and the Constitution,” U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said. “Burdensome, bureaucratic red-tape and the weaponization of our federal agencies MUST END.”
