U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) on Wednesday took a critical posture toward President Joe Biden’s withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan and his administration’s handling of the recent hardship that has taken place in the beleaguered country.
The Biden administration on Tuesday estimated that roughly 90% of Americans who sought evacuation from the fallen country were able to be rescued. Aderholt joined fellow Republicans in criticizing the president for withdrawing prior to ensuring all Americans had been evacuated from the country which is now under Taliban rule.
“President Biden not only left behind 10% of the Americans and countless Afghan allies, but needlessly turned over $85 billion worth of lethal equipment that will be used to inflict harm on the US and our allies,” said Aderholt.
President Biden says 90% of Americans who wanted to leave Afghanistan have been able to leave. Leaving 10% behind is not a success. The Taliban cannot be trusted to protect them and give them safe passage. They killed an Afghan man for singing. They won’t protect Americans.

The congressman believes Biden’s exit strategy was formulated out of political calculation, citing the president’s desire to claim the legacy of having ended the two-decades-long war.
He added, “President Biden appears to have overridden the judgment of his generals, ignored our allies, and, in the process, damaged our credibility around the globe. His rushed exit and failure to secure a path out for citizens and allies was a colossal blunder and he alone bears responsibility. All this because President Biden wanted a sound bite that said he got us out of a 20-year war. These actions make America look weak.”
Aderholt went on to state that he sees Biden as a president who is “failing” at protecting the national security interests of the United States.
“Out of all of President Biden’s poor decisions regarding our military and foreign policy, this is by far the worst. The number one job of the Commander in Chief is to protect every American. Joe Biden is failing at this task,” Aderholt concluded.
The North Alabama congressman joins fellow members of Alabama’s GOP congressional delegation in condemning the Biden administration’s oversight of the end of U.S. military presence in the troubled Middle Eastern country.
