Last month, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) was appointed to the House Agriculture and Veterans’ Affairs committees, which compliments his second congressional district’s military and agriculture presence.
Moore, a freshman lawmaker just over one month into his first term, noted how the assignments lined up with his military service and agricultural science studies at Auburn University.
The Coffee County Republican told Mobile radio’s FM Talk 106.5 the committee assignments have generated a lot of excitement from his constituents.
“That’s kind of in my wheelhouse,” he said. “That’s where I hope I would end up. Obviously, I’m the only ag science major in D.C. from Alabama now. I’m the only veteran from the Alabama delegation. I think that’s two areas that I understand somewhat, but they represent my second congressional district really, really well in our great state. So, to be able to voice for the veterans, the concerns on the part for veterans’ affairs, and obviously ag is a big, big economic engine in our state and certainly in my district. So, happy to be there. I look forward to serving in those capacities, and you know, hopefully, we can do some great things for the district.”
“A lot of texts, a lot of people really, really excited,” Moore added. “So we were pleased with where we wound up. So like I said, it’s part of being that vox populi, the voice of the people. Peanuts and propellers, veterans and ag — that’s kind of lines up quite nicely, doesn’t it, Jeff?”
Moore also discussed working with the state’s congressional delegation for the overall well-being of Alabama.
“That’s part of the process — working with the delegation,” he said. “Some of the members have been here a minute, making sure we’re doing what we can to represent the folks we were sent here to represent and of course, the great state of Alabama there — ag and we love our military as well. Those are two areas we are well-suited, and hopefully, we’ll do a fine job.”
