U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is hitting Alabama soil this Friday for a planned visit to a school in Mobile.
According to a media advisory on Wednesday, McMahon will be joined by former Auburn University men’s basketball head coach Bruce Pearl as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s nationwide “History Rocks” civics and history tour ahead of America’s 250th anniversary this year.
“As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, the Department of Education is visiting schools across the country on the History Rocks! Trail to Independence Tour,” the advisory said. “The initiative aims to celebrate each state’s contributions to the Union and encourage students to connect with America’s founding ideals.”
The Department of Education reported in December the coast-to-coast effort is being coordinated with the America 250 Civics Education Coalition, a partnership that includes America First Policy Institute, Turning Point USA, Hillsdale College, and 50+ national and state organizations.
Last week, Secretary McMahon praised Alabama lawmakers and Governor Kay Ivey for “answering the Trump Admin’s call to expand school choice,” during national School Choice Week, as the state continues to implement the landmark CHOOSE Act, passed by the Legislature in 2024.
Pearl will reportedly join McMahon, now in retirement from coaching basketball, and officially out of the running for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat in 2026, following months of high-profile consideration throughout last year.
