Two teenage brothers from Tuskegee have been charged with four counts of reckless murder each in connection to the Dadeville shooting that left four dead and 32 injured.
In a press conference this morning, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced Ty Reik McCullough, 17, and Travis McCullough, 16, were both officially charged.
Tuskegee is about 40 miles south of Dadeville.
Update: ALEA reported the third suspect was identified as Wilson Hill Jr., 20, of Auburn. Hill is in custody and charged with four counts of reckless murder.
Among those killed was Philstavious Dowdell, the brother of Alexis Dowdell, who was celebrating her 16th birthday party at a dance studio in downtown Dadeville where the shooting unfolded.
Also killed was 17-year-old Shaunkivia Nicole Smith, 19-year-old Marsiah Emmanuel Collins and 23-year-old Corbin Dahmontrey Holston.
“This is absolutely the beginning, this is not the end,” ALEA Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said.
District Attorney Mike Segrest said the two will be charged as adults.
“The State of Alabama will be requesting no bond,” Segrest said. “We mentioned four counts of reckless murder. Obviously, that just includes the four deceased that have been recorded. We’ve got a lot more victims.
“We’re going to make sure every one of those victims has justice.”
Many members of the community, as well as those emotionally invested in the situation, have been frustrated by the flow of information since Sunday’s shooting.
“As a prosecutor, I cannot discuss specific facts of the case,” Segrest said. “The reason being, the defendants have constitutional rights.”
Governor Kay Ivey offered her support following the announcements:
Violent crime has NO place in Alabama and what happened in Dadeville was horrific. I’m proud of the major progress made by law enforcement. The work is not done, and we will fully support ALEA as they work to ensure we hold ALL responsible for this tragedy accountable.
