As part of a continued drive to ensure military readiness, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has introduced legislation that would remove any DEI-related requirements at the Department of Defense. According to the lawmaker, the Restoring Lethality Act will remove ‘distractions’ from the armed forces, often caused by DEI policies.
For Tuberville, the bill builds on a previously successful effort to strip all DEI funding from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Should his new legislation pass, the cuts will remain in place.
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris treated the Pentagon like a trial run for their latest DEI initiatives,” said Tuberville.
“Thankfully, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are working around the clock to eradicate this poisonous ideology from the military, but there’s still more to be done. We have to make sure zero taxpayer dollars go towards this divisive propaganda that distracts from the core mission of the military: to protect the security of the United States.”

Following President Donald Trump’s executive order in January to eliminate DEI in the military, Tuberville spoke about the need to refocus its mission on lethality rather than cultural issues.
“For the past four years, I have sounded the alarm about Joe Biden and the far-left, progressive Democrats politicizing our military,” he said. “As a result, recruitment has fallen to the lowest levels since before World War II. We need our military to be a fighting machine, not a playground for Democrats’ culture war. Thankfully, change is here.”
“The executive orders from President Donald Trump eliminate DEI in the military, reinstate service members discharged for refusing the COVID vaccine, and ensure military standards are updated to prioritize readiness, restore lethality, and build confidence in our Armed Forces.”
In 2024, Tuberville also spoke at length on the Senate floor about the issue.
“On day one, the Biden Administration announced that the military would begin conducting training to ‘have knowledge of systemic and institutional racism and bias against underserved communities.’ This hateful ideology has no place in the United States, let alone the United States military,” Tuberville said. “This is supposed to be the number one fighting force in the world. It is dangerous and insulting to waste our troops’ valuable time on political indoctrination such as this.
