Tuberville: ‘There has got to be some people gone’ from Biden administration for Afghanistan debacle

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is expecting accountability for the resulting aftermath of the U.S. military’s precipitous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Tuberville, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, called the Biden administration evacuation plan “awful” during an appearance on Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show” on Tuesday.

He also said he expected a “ton” of hearings and investigations on Capitol Hill into this matter.

“[T]he plan was absolutely awful,” he said. “You know, I spend most of my time in Washington, D.C. at hearings and investigations. Man, there’s going to be a ton in this deal because there’s a lot of people to blame. I’m anxious to see here in the next few weeks who Biden holds accountable. There has got to be some people gone on this. The NSA director, Jake Sullivan, who is 41 years old, never had a job before, and it is obvious our intel was awful in this whole deal.”

“You just hate it for the Afghan people,” Tuberville continued. “You know, we’ve got 10,000 people still on the ground there. We can only get 300 to 3,000 a day out right now just by helicopter. There are probably 60,000 to 70,000 people we have to get out. It is a complete mess, out of control. You know, Alabamians and millions and millions of Americans honorably served in this country, and they did a great job with the circumstances that confronted them.”

Tuberville said his office had been monitoring everything and said his office had been working to help get people out of the war-torn nation.
