Tuberville: Secret Service director should’ve been fired ‘once that trigger was pulled’

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) joined the Clay and Buck Show live from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday.

Among the topics, discussed was the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump and the failure of the Secret Service to secure the rally site prior to Trump taking the stage.

Since the shooting, Kimberly Cheatle, the Director of the Secret Service, has been asked to resign by multiple legislators for the fatal lapse in security. So far, she has indicated that she has no intentions of leaving the position.

“Now, this lady, I don’t know her, but I will tell you this. Yesterday about this time, we had a conference call with her,” Tuberville told the hosts. “First thing she says, and tries to push over all of us, Democrat and Republican senators. She says, first of all, this was a failure of assassination.”

“Stop. Once that trigger was pulled, you should be fired. Okay? Because that’s what you can’t rely on.”

Tuberville then raised a question many across the country want answered.

“Walking around 30 to 40 minutes beforehand, people recognize him climbing on top of a building. What in the world is going on?’

There is also a disagreement growing between the police at the rally and the secret service

“There’s going to be a huge fight here with local police and secret service,” Tuberville said “Local police said, listen, y’all put us in charge of traffic and parking. So what do we have to do with a shooter.”

“Before the sun went down. After that, she should have been fired.”

The Senator explained that hearings are to a certain extent useless.

“I keep hearing, oh, man, we’re going to have House hearings next week. We’re going to have Senate hearings. They don’t mean a damn thing. You can get somebody to just get up there and absolutely lie to you.”

In the end, Tuberville doesn’t believe that secret service leadership will take responsibility for the incident.

“Nothing’s gonna happen. It’s gotta go back to the person at the top that has to hold people accountable for their job, but nobody is.”

“Washington DC is a cluster. It is an absolute cluster.”
