Tuberville presses defense officials for answers over helicopter crash that killed Stephen Dwyer

It’s now been several months since a fatal Mediterranean Sea helicopter crash killed five elite U.S. Army Special Operations aviation soldiers. One of those soldiers graduated from Enterprise High School in 2004.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Stephen R. Dwyer, 38, was taking part in an air refueling mission as part of a training exercise on November 10, 2023 when the crash occurred.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville wants to make sure that Alabamians remember the sacrifice made by Dwyer. Now, as part of that effort, he is calling for an investigation and an official report from the Senate Armed Services Committee regarding the crash. WATCH:

“I’d love to get a report on those five special ops that lost their lives I think in the Mediterranean in a helicopter,” Tuberville told General Bryan Fenton Of US Special Forces in a recent hearing. “One of them was an Alabama soldier and I’d love to get a report on that if I could.”

Immediately after the crash, Tuberville expressed his condolences via social media.

“My prayers go out to the family of Chief Warrant Officer 3 Stephen R. Dwyer, and all the victims following this tragic crash.”

Enterprise Mayor, William E. Cooper, knew Dwyer personally.

“We are heartbroken to learn that Steve was killed while in service to our country,” Cooper said in November. “I was Assistant Principal when he was in high school, and I remember him fondly. Let’s all lift up his wife, their three boys, his parents, sister and other family members and friends in prayer as they go through this unimaginable time.”
