U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) praised the recent decision by ABC to indefinitely suspend “Jimmy Kimmel Live” over comments the Kimmel made about Charlie Kirk.
“This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he calls a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish,” Kimmel said mocking President Donald Trump’s reaction to Kirk’s death.
The network made the decision after Nexstar Communications Group said it would pull the show from it’s 23 ABC affiliates starting Wednesday.
Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said that Kimmel’s comments on Kirk were “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse.”
Trump weighed in on the issue Thursday saying, “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”
Tuberville echoed Trump’s sentiment on the cancellation Thursday.
“Jimmy Kimmel made DISGUSTING and FALSE comments in the wake of the ASSASSINATION of a beloved American patriot,” Tuberville posted on X. “It isn’t ‘cancel culture for Sinclair and Nexstar to hold him ACCOUNTABLE for his words. I’m glad to see ABC and Disney grew a spine, for once.”
The senator also talked about the rhetoric he’s seen on the left since the assassination.
“The Democrats now are just trying to find an avenue where they can make an excuse,” Tuberville said on “The Bottom Line” on Fox Business. “They’re looking for excuses. They have no excuse. They’ve lied to the American people—ever since I’ve been here for five years in the United States Senate—about the border, about our debt, about our education, and they just keep on and on, but they’re looking for a way to prove that, ‘Hey, it really wasn’t our fault. We didn’t mean any of this stuff that we said, but at the end of the day, it was all the Republicans’ fault.’ And they’ve done that since I’ve been here, so it’s a crock of crap and J.D. Vance, our Vice President, was exactly right. They need to own it because they own every bit of it and they tried to create a narrative and they did it and, unfortunately, we lost a great person.”
