U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville continued to fuel speculation about his run for Governor of Alabama in 2026 this morning in an appearance on Longshore & McKnight. Tuberville (R-Auburn) also revealed an interesting detail about his recent visit with former rival-turned friend Nick Saban.
“Well, as I’ve told people, I want to help the people of Alabama. I did this to help the people. We had to get Doug Jones out. I was going to run for governor to begin with, but Kay Ivey had just gone in,” Tuberville said when asked about his 2026 aspirations.
“I’ve sat down with my family. We’ll sit down here probably in a month or so, and after we get President Trump closer to his 100 days, visit with him also. I want to do what’s best. If it’s best for me to stay here [in Washington, D.C.], I’ll do it. If it’s best for me to go home and try to become governor. Now, I’m a disrupter now…I know a lot about a lot of things that need to be changed. But again, same thing up here. So, it’s really not big on my agenda right now.
“But you, know what’s on my agenda right now? See who wins this NCAA tournament coming up.”
Tuberville also gave some context on his visit with former Alabama head coach Nick Saban earlier this week.
“I had dinner couple nights ago up here with Saban and [Mike] Krzyzewski from Duke. You know, both those guys retired, and I’m trying to get them to run for public office — I think they’re making too much money do that — but as we sit there and talk, I told Nick this, ‘Nick, I went to the I went to the game Saturday, Auburn-Alabama, and I’ve never seen such athletes on the court, on both sides.’”

“My gosh. I mean, those guards, those guards were as fast as any DB I’ve ever seen. We’ve lost a lot of great talent to basketball, but the SEC has come a long way. You know, just as a total group, and I’m not so sure at the end of the day, Florida might, as we’re speaking, might not, be the best team, and that you didn’t hear about them, but it’s going to be a fight again. That was a great game with Auburn and Alabama, and that, you know, the last shot in overtime, but I would just miss being a coach. I just amazed and watched these athletes.
“It was a dang fist fight out there,” Tuberville said.
