Tuberville: ‘I REFUSE to cooperate with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations’ after Trump conviction

U.S. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is joining some of his Senate colleagues in a vow to block certain legislative priorities and judicial nominees in response to the guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump.

A New York jury convicted Donald Trump on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records Thursday. It was the first time in American history that a former President has ever been found guilty of a crime.

Tuberville signed a pledge that said “The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways. As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart.”

“To that end,” the pledge continued, “we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration’s political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrat legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people.”

Tuberville posted the pledge on X claiming, “In response to the partisan politics coming from the [White House], my colleagues and I REFUSE to cooperate with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations that are part of their agenda to tear our country apart.”

The senator also released a full statement on the verdict, calling “a political witch hunt.”

“It’s a very dark day in American history, Tuberville said. “This ‘trial’ was a political witch hunt from the start. The fact that the Biden campaign staged a press conference outside the court tells you everything you need to know.

“Liberal activist Alvin Bragg and Biden-donor Judge Merchan had a shared goal: to put President Trump behind bars. Whether you consider the lopsided jury, the gag order issued to silence only President Trump, the prosecution’s failure to outline the alleged underlying crimes, or the lack of a unanimous verdict required for conviction, this trial was a complete joke and a massive misuse of taxpayer dollars.

“This is pure election interference and the American people will see through it. We can’t have a two-tier justice system. If we don’t return to our Constitution, which guarantees every U.S. citizen the right to free speech and the right to a fair trial by an impartial jury, we are no better than Venezuela or communist China.”

Trump has been instructed to appear before the court again on July 11 for sentencing.
