U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville blasted AOC over what he called a mocking Southern drawl and said New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani should be arrested and sent to Guantanamo Bay.
Tuberville (R-Auburn) made the remarks during a recent appearance on “The Benny Show” with conservative commentator Benny Johnson.
Johnson played a clip of U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) speaking at a campaign rally in Memphis, where she called for Democrats to avoid leaving Alabama and other Southern states behind.
Ocasio-Cortez appeared at the event in support of Tennessee State Rep. Justin Pearson, who is running for Congress. Critics accused her of adopting a Southern accent during portions of her speech.
Asked whether the accent would “pass in Auburn,” Tuberville accused Ocasio-Cortez of ridiculing Southern voters.

“No, she’s just making fun of us,” Tuberville said. “She’s a bartender from New York that has built a reputation off of social media.”
Tuberville predicted Ocasio-Cortez would eventually seek the presidency and argued that the South remains central to the country’s military strength, constitutional values and Christian traditions.
“She can make fun of the South all she wants, but you know who’s controlling this country right now? The South is controlling it,” he said.
Tuberville also referenced Ocasio-Cortez’s previous appearance in Montgomery during the congressional redistricting debate.
“She couldn’t get to first base running for dog catcher in the South,” Tuberville said. “So I hope she runs for president.”
The conversation later turned to Mamdani and his recent statements about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mamdani previously pledged to arrest Netanyahu if he entered New York City under an International Criminal Court warrant. He has since acknowledged that the city lacks the legal authority to carry out the arrest but called on the federal government to act.
Tuberville called the mayor a “thug” and said he believed Mamdani would eventually cross a line requiring federal action.
“Go put the handcuffs on him and get him the hell out of here, and send him to Gitmo because the guy hates this country,” Tuberville said.
“We’re not going to allow him just because he’s mayor of New York to be able to change our Constitution and everything that we believe in.”
Tuberville and Mamdani have repeatedly traded criticism. Earlier this year, the Alabama senator accused the mayor of promoting religious and political values that conflict with the U.S. Constitution.
