Thursday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) commended efforts by special counsel John Durham to investigate potential surveillance of former President Donald Trump conducted by lawyers representing Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Earlier this week, Fox News reported that a recent court filing by Durham found that the Clinton campaign’s lawyers paid a technology firm to “infiltrate” servers at Trump Tower and the White House in an attempt to establish a “narrative” that linked Trump to Russia.
Clinton took to social media on Wednesday to call the matter a “fake scandal.”
Tuberville in a statement said that the special counsel’s filing “raises concerns” and expressed his desire for Durham to get to the bottom of what occurred.
“When you see smoke, you need to find out if there’s fire. The information in Special Counsel Durham’s court filing raises concerns, including whether data being monitored during the Trump campaign and administration was illegally used for political purposes,” stated Tuberville. “We need to find out how long this practice lasted and who knew about it, and make that information public for the American people.”
“This filing does not need to be swept under the rug,” added the senator. “Getting to the bottom of this is important to the strength of our democracy and the integrity of the executive office of the president, regardless if the President is a Democrat or a Republican. I applaud Mr. Durham for continuing to pursue this investigation, and he should continue to follow the facts where they lead.”
