As the result of the 2020 presidential election hangs in the balance, U.S. Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth (R-AL) are sounding the alarm bell as five remaining states have yet to be called.
With respective results still unclear in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Arizona, legal challenges have been filed and allegations of impropriety made; to make matters worse, certain jurisdictions have limited or even blocked legal election observers and challengers, creating the appearance of wrongdoing — whether fraud is actually being committed or not.
President Donald Trump on Thursday afternoon spoke to the nation about the status of the race, expressing confidence he will win if election laws are properly followed in the states in question. The Biden camp has similarly expressed confidence, with the former vice president on Wednesday saying the Biden-Harris ticket is on track to win.
In a tweet following Trump’s Thursday remarks, Tuberville backed the president.
“The election results are out of control. It’s like the whistle has blown, the game is over, and the players have gone home, but the referees are suddenly adding touchdowns to the other team’s side of the scoreboard,” he decried.
“I’d challenge that as a coach, and [President Trump] is right to challenge that as a candidate,” Tuberville added. “The American people deserve transparency and to know the integrity of our votes are preserved.”
Ainsworth also commented on the situation in a Thursday tweet of his own, saying Alabama in its elections should continue to “avoid the chaos” playing out in other states right now.
“Every legal ballot must be counted, but ONLY legal ballots,” Ainsworth wrote. “To avoid this kind of chaos from happening in Alabama, I’ll fight universal mail-in voting and no-excuse early voting. It’s an invitation for disaster, fraud, ballot-harvesting, confusion, and mayhem.”
Trump won Alabama in historic fashion on Tuesday, receiving 1,424,226 votes (62.34%) as of the latest unofficial results published by the Secretary of State’s Office.
