Trump: ‘Very wonderful young Senator’ Katie Britt called to affirm support for protecting IVF

Former President Donald Trump’s said in a Thursday night interview on FOX News with Sean Hannity that he talked to U.S. Senator Katie Britt last week about their support for families and hopeful parents pursuing treatment through in vitro fertilization (IVF) following a ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court that ignited discussion on the topic across the nation.

“I came out immediately and I said, we want to help women,” Trump told FOX. “They’re having a hard time having a baby, to put it very simply, and they’re helped by clinics and others, and all of a sudden, it was stopped in Alabama. I put out a very strong statement that we’re totally in favor of it.”

“I got a call from Katie Britt, a very wonderful young senator in Alabama. And she said friends of mine were coming up and like almost attacking her — they were so upset about it.”

Trump said they spoke in-depth about the situation while lawmakers at the state level began a swift effort to guarantee protections. WATCH:

“And I said what’s the issue? What is it explained? What is it exactly are we talking about the IVF? And I said we want that we want people to help. We’re on the side of women,” Trump said.

Sen. Britt (R-Montgomery) spoke up about protecting families concerned with treatment availability the day before Trump strongly communicated on the topic.

“Make no mistake — defending life and ensuring continued access to IVF services for loving parents are not mutually exclusive,” Britt said last week. “My goal is for Alabama to be the best place in the world to live, work, worship, and raise a family.”

“Ultimately, IVF helps create life and grow families, and it deserves the protection of the law. I’ll continue to advance a culture of life while ensuring moms and children have the opportunities and resources they need to thrive and live their American Dream,” she said.
