President Donald Trump is far outpacing his presumed 2020 election opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, in fundraising from Alabamians.
Since the beginning of 2019, Trump has received 43,607 contributions from the people of Alabama for a total of $2,554,586.42.
In that same timespan, 7,137 contributions from Alabamians have been sent to Biden, totaling $669,471.02.
Yellowhammer News downloaded from the Federal Election Commission’s website the donations the two candidates have received from Alabama since January 1, 2019 to calculate those figures. Various tools on the FEC website can sometimes return slightly different numbers due to different processing techniques and inclusion criteria.
During the most recent fundraising quarter, the only span of time in which Biden was the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, Trump accrued 8,000 more donors, according to an analysis done by the New York Times.
The four zip codes where Trump donors outnumber Biden donors by the highest margin during the most recent fundraising quarter are:
36535 that covers the town of Foley in south Baldwin County,
36330 that encompasses the town of Enterprise in the Wiregrass,
35242 that covers a chunk of the suburbs south of Birmingham, and
35603 that covers southwest Decatur and the town of Priceville.
The Times data zip code study is for all donations from April 1 through June 30, 2020. Donations by check of less than $200 and purchases made through campaign stores were not counted.
Alabama ranks 26th among states with the most money given to Trump, and 32nd among states in giving money to Biden.
