Trump features Calhoun Community College graduate in White House ceremony honoring class of 2020

President Donald Trump held a ceremony honoring the class of 2020, and it included one man who recently graduated from Calhoun Community College in North Alabama.

Jeffrey Neill, 46, earned an associate degree in industrial maintenance from Calhoun that will allow him to advance his career at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in Huntsville where he has worked since 2006.

Neill was joined by 19 other Americans from various parts of the country, including some who just graduated from high school and even one young woman who just graduated from kindergarten.

“In two short years, I have been able to continue working while earning an Industrial Maintenance degree that will put me on a path forward for growth at Toyota and set an example for my daughter that it’s never too late to follow your dreams,” Neill told WAAY 31 in Huntsville.

“Your senior year may have been defined by the pandemic, but your future will not be,” said Trump at the ceremony.

David Finch, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama, told WAAY, “We are extremely proud of our AMT program graduates and excited for Jeffrey to have this once in a lifetime opportunity. He is a perfect example to others that it is never too late to pursue education and career advancement.”

The recent graduate plans to continue working for Toyota, the company that accommodated his goal to further his education.

Neill told the public, “As an adult learner, I encourage anyone who has the desire to pursue education or career advancement to believe in yourself and take the step forward. I am living proof that it is possible, and grateful that Toyota gave me, and many others, this opportunity.”
