Trump ‘deserves the Senator he wants’: Morgan Murphy drops out of Alabama U.S. Senate race, pledges to flip U.S. House seat from blue to red

It appears that President Donald Trump has in one way or another convinced one of the candidates for U.S. Senate to drop out of the race.

Former Trump official and U.S. Sen Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) staffer Morgan Murphy announced Tuesday that he’s no longer running for the position. Murphy said he plans to run for U.S House instead and is endorsing U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) for the Senate seat.

“[Y]ou may have seen President Trump has endorsed my opponent, Congressman Barry Moore,” Murphy said in a video posted on X. “President Trump is the leader of our party, and he sacrificed more than anyone to make America great again. He deserves the senator he wants in Washington, DC. Barry Moore has a strong conservative track record and has earned President Trump’s support.”

According to the latest poll by Remington Research Group on the contest, Moore currently leads the field with 22%, followed by Marshall at 16% and former U.S. Navy Seal Jared Hudson at 12%. Nearly half of Republican voters, 47%, remain undecided.

“Republicans don’t need to waste time or money fighting one another, I want to be a good steward of the trust you’ve placed in me and my campaign,” Murphy continued. “So today, I’m announcing that I’m bowing out of the U.S. Senate race and endorsing representative Barry Moore.”

Moore responded to the endorsement and said he appreciates the support.

”I’m grateful to receive the endorsement of fellow veteran and Senate candidate Morgan Murphy,” Moore said. “Morgan has served our country with honor and brings valuable in and public service. His support means a great deal, and together we will keep fighting for Alabama and the America First agenda.”

Murphy’s campaign announced last month that they raised $1,057,949. The candidate now is going to use those dollars to win a seat in the House.

“But I’m not done fighting instead, I’m redirecting every dollar that you’ve donated not to attack fellow Republicans, but to flip a Blue House seat right here in ruby red Alabama,” he explained. “The United States cannot afford to lose the house and spend the next two years of President Trump’s administration battling radicals on the left who care more about nursing their Trump derangement syndrome than they do about the country or our state.”

Murphy didn’t specify if he’s running against U.S. Reps. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) or Shomari Figures (D-Mobile).

“I’m staying in the fight for you, for Alabama and for the America first priorities I hold so dear,” he said. “I hope you’ll join me as we work to keep the house in conservative hands and continue making America great again.”
