In his new role, he’ll continue to lead the University’s efforts with federal, state and local governments while assuming additional responsibilities including the Office of Development, Alumni Affairs and Sponsored Programs.

“William has already proven he can represent Troy University well with many external stakeholders during his tenure here. He is a servant leader who is willing to assume new and additional responsibilities,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor.

“William will continue to excel in his new role by helping nurture current partnerships while also creating new opportunities with both public and private individuals and entities in the State of Alabama and beyond.”

The University says that Filmore’s leadership, the government relations team was able to secure the largest budget increase in more than a decade as well as the largest total fiscal year state appropriation in the University’s history. Additionally, there have been new funding sources secured over the last year through his hard work and advocacy.

“Our success over the last year has truly been a team effort, and we are very thankful for the support we have received from government leaders in both Montgomery and Washington D.C.,” Filmore said. “I am very thankful for this new opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to help the University grow its list of supporters and stakeholders alongside the talented and experienced team we have at Troy University.”

Filmore is a two-time TROY graduate, holding both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration. During his time as an undergraduate at TROY, he served as President of the Student Government Association in addition to his involvement in many other student organizations on campus.

Prior to joining the TROY staff, Filmore served as Director of Legislative Affairs for Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey. He also previously served as the governor’s Local Government Liaison for mayors, county commissioners and other local officials.
