The Troy Trojans are on the cusp of getting right back to the top of the mountain in the Sun Belt Conference.
After an impressive 8-4 regular season which included a 6-2 record in conference play, the Trojans won the conference’s West division to get back to the championship game where they will take on the 11-1 James Madison Dukes who are undefeated in conference play.
One year after losing head coach Jon Sumrall — who was just named the head coach of the Florida Gators — to Tulane, Gerad Parker has Troy back where it belongs and playing for a title. Sumrall in his two years leading the program won the conference title in both tries and had a 23-5 record during his tenure.
Parker on the other hand took over a program which lost a ton of talent from the year prior and the first season was a struggle, going 4-8 in 2024 including a 3-5 conference record.
The former Notre Dame offensive coordinator helped the team take a leap in year two though, and now the Trojans will get the chance to spoil a potential playoff bid for James Madison.
Troy will get its chance to take the conference crown back this Friday night at 6:00 p.m. CST on ESPN. It is a true road game however at Bridgeforth Stadium in the home of the Dukes, and JMU is considered a huge favorite.
As the Trojans try to pull the upset which would shock the world, fans from the state of Alabama are likely getting ready to travel up for what should be a wonderful matchup.
