The Alabama Crimson Tide is gearing up for the second season of the Kalen DeBoer era, a year they hope is more successful on the field than the first.
One of the major returning pieces that will help make that happen is senior wide receiver Germie Bernard, who was one of the best players on the offense last year and had numerous huge performances.
Bernard — who transferred to Alabama from Washington upon DeBoer accepting the job — had 50 receptions for nearly 800 yards last season and will try to improve this year as a senior.
For Bernard, faith drives his actions both on and off the field. During a recent interview, he opened up about how important faith is and the selection process he uses to pick bible verses for his eyeblack every week:
“I just want people to know that God is a faithful God.
If you are obedient to his word and what he wants you to do with your life, you’re gonna be blessed.”

“Right now, I’m in the book of Matthew,” Bernard began. “I just pray to God each week, whatever comes to You and You want me to be able to show others and lead others to You, please put that on my heart.’ I think He does that a lot of the time, and I’m so grateful to have that relationship with Him that I can do that.”
“I just want people to know that God is a faithful God, and if you are obedient to his word and what he wants you to do with your life, you’re gonna be blessed…so I just pray each week and hope and have faith that he’s gonna be able to give me the right words to be able to express to somebody else because somebody else does need that.”
Bernard is likely sitting on the cusp of his best season yet, but no matter what, faith will be at the center of it all.
