Tide hire former NFL HC Doug Marrone as offensive line coach

Doug Marrone, a head coach for six seasons in the NFL, is set to become the offensive line coach for the University of Alabama’s football team, per an announcement by head coach Nick Saban on Monday.

“We are extremely fortunate to be able to add Doug Marrone to our staff,” Saban remarked in a statement provided by the university. “He knows our new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien well and will do a fantastic job with our offensive line.”

Marrone has extensive experience in the college rank, including a four-year tenure as head coach of Syracuse University between 2009 and 2012. He was most recently the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I have always admired the programs Coach Saban has built, and I am excited to have the opportunity to join his staff here at Alabama,” Marrone commented in a release.

The move to Tuscaloosa reunites Marrone with current Bama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. The two men were both on Georgia Tech’s offensive coaching staff in the late 1990s.

Former Tide offensive line coach Kyle Flood followed former Bama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to Texas, where Flood is the new offensive coordinator for the Longhorns.

“Coach’s program is the model of consistency, and I am looking forward to helping continue that tradition of success with an exceptional group of players and coaches,” Marrone said of Saban.
