PIEDMONT JOURNAL — Inside the Statehouse: Poll — Alabamians happy with Bentley

In a recent reliable poll Alabamians expressed overwhelming satisfaction with the job that our doctor governor is doing.

The poll done by the Capital Survey Research Center revealed that a whopping two-thirds of Alabama voters approve of Gov. Robert Bentley’s job performance. When asked their impression of Bentley, 63 percent of the surveyed voters reacted favorably to his performance, 20 percent were unfavorable and 17 percent were neutral or did not recognize the governor’s name.

These are pretty good numbers for an incumbent governor one and a half years into his four year tenure in office. Such favorable approval ratings bode well for reelection possibilities in 2014.

BIRMINGHAM NEWS — Michelle Obama urges on supporters during Birmingham speech

Michelle Obama spoke to a crowd of supporters this evening with passion, enthusiasm and urgency.
“I believe our president is doing a phenomenal job,” she said to the crowd.

She evoked her working class upbringing, and that of the president, and said that way of life was what they wanted to continue to champion in a second term. “We are doing this for the vision for this country that we all share.”

Good schools, parents and grandparents who can retire with dignity are part of that vision.
“Folks should not go bankrupt because someone gets sick,” she said.

Responsibility should be rewarded, she said. People should be able to work hard work, build a decent life and send their children to school.

HUNTSVILLE TIMES — Retiring to Alabama? State among worst in nation, website says

Retiring to Alabama is a bad idea and, in fact, anywhere in the Deep South for that matter.

Of the 10 states listed, five are in the Deep South.

The list, in fact, looks much like the Southeastern Conference. Along with Alabama, the states include Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky and Texas. Only New Mexico is outside of the SEC’s college sports’ footprint.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE — Who else, Mr. President?

John Kass - Chicago Tribune

Excerpt: When President Barack Obama hauled off and slapped American small-business owners in the mouth the other day, I wanted to dream of my father.

But I didn’t have to close my eyes to see my dad. I could do it with my eyes open.

All I had to do was think of the driveway of our home, and my dad’s car gone before dawn, that old white Chrysler with a push-button transmission. It always started, but there was a hole in the floor and his feet got wet in the rain. So he patched it with concrete mix and kept on driving it to the little supermarket he ran with my Uncle George.

The next day he’d wake up and do it again. Day after day, decade after decade. Weekdays and weekends, no vacations, no time to see our games, no money for extras, not even forMcDonald’s. My dad and Uncle George, and my mom and my late Aunt Mary, killing themselves in their small supermarket on the South Side of Chicago.

FOX NEWS — Chick-fil-A President Says Company Opposes Gay Marriage

Excerpt: The president of Chick-fil-A said his company is “guilty as charged” when it comes to supporting traditional marriage and warned that gay marriage is “inviting God’s judgment on our nation.”

Dan Cathy, the president and chief operating officer, told Baptist Press that the company founded by his father was unapologetically in favor of traditional marriage.

“Guilty as charged,” he said. “We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”
