A deadly Sunday in Montgomery occurred when two separate domestic-related shootings left three people dead, marking a violent end to the weekend in the capital city.
According to police, Montgomery officers and fire medics responded shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday on reports of a person having been shot.
First responders found a man dead at the scene. Police later identified the victim as 30-year-old Deanthony Payne of Montgomery. Authorities said a preliminary investigation determined the case to be a domestic incident, and a homicide investigation remains underway.
Later that evening, a second domestic-related shooting occurred in a different part of the city.
According to Montgomery police, officers responded around 6:38 p.m. Sunday to a shooting.
Officers found an adult male suffering from fatal injuries caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities also located a woman with life-threatening injuries. Police identified her as 38-year-old Shanita Lewis of Montgomery. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Montgomery police said the incident appears to be domestic-related. Investigators asked anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP or the Montgomery Police Department at 334-625-2831.
Both cases remain under investigation.
