Every Tuesday we present “The Auburn Corner,” where we’ll get into a different topic on the Auburn Tigers, break down the previous game, preview the upcoming game, and everything in between.
The Auburn Tigers are headed into an offseason coming off another disappointing season under Hugh Freeze that saw his record as Auburn’s head coach drop to 11-14 in the two years since arriving on The Plains.
Freeze is going to be under significantly more pressure in 2025 than he has been the last two years to start winning and see his recruiting efforts translate to more success on the field. After the Payton Thorne experiment flopped during the last two seasons, Thorne is out of eligibility and both Hank Brown and Holden Geriner have entered the transfer portal.
So, it’s safe to say the quarterback room is going to look very different in 2025.
The only returner will be freshman Walker White, who was a four-star recruit in last year’s class but wasn’t ready enough to play in more than one game this past season. White will have a chance to try to earn the job, but it won’t be with a lack of competition. Of course, many will talk about the possibility of incoming five-star freshman Deuce Knight coming in to push for the job, but Knight starting right away is probably not going to happen.
Auburn is likely going to bring in not just one but possibly two transfer quarterbacks to fill the room out. Just this week, they have been heavily connected to Stanford signal caller Ashton Daniels who had 1,700 yards with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season along with nearly 700 rushing yards.

Barring a star being brought in the likes of which Cam Ward was for Miami this season, no portal quarterback is going to come in with the promise of a starting job. If the team does land Daniels, fans won’t be supremely excited and will hope the second addition is a bigger name.
But at this point, it’s safe to say that the room as a whole in 2025 will be headlined with White and Knight along with the addition of two new quarterbacks, ceilings to be determined.
