Chairman of the DeSantis campaign in Alabama said she’s happy with the Florida governor’s debate performance at the University of Alabama.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis squared off against former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy in Tuscaloosa Wednesday night.
Terry Lathan, former ALGOP Chair and current leader of the DeSantis campaign in the Yellowhammer State, talked about the Republican Presidential Debate on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program,” Thursday.
“I think he won the debate last night and I’m not saying that because he’s my guy,” Lathan said. “I’m saying that for many different reasons. I talked to many people that were there, kind of just informally in polling. When you’re sitting there in the debate, you see what happens when cameras are off…and across the board Republicans that were there told me, and even people who are for Trump say DeSantis won that debate. We hear that over and over again after these debates happen.”
She also believes that DeSantis keeps his promises and will continue to do so as president.
“He’s not sitting there trying to figure out what to say. He says what he means and means what he says,” she argued. “His success in Florida is second to none.”
Lathan admitted that Trump did great thinks as president, but believes now he’s not the right person for the job.

“Donald Trump implemented incredible policies for our nation and the results show it,” she said, “However he has a major legal battle following him. I believe a lot of those charges are bogus and they’re just trying to getting him and that’s just not American. But I also believe that there are charges that may, and that’s a gamble that our party’s going to be taking if he’s the nominee.”
Lathan emphasized why DeSantis is the best candidate and why she hopes his support will continue to grow in Alabama and across the country.
“If I can have a Reagan-esque statesman that can deliver conservative policies but does not name call, bully people, just inappropriate mannerisms that Donald Trump does, Ron DeSantis is the person,” she said. “And so I’m hoping people will give him a really hard look. We’re certainly recognize that national polls show Trump ahead, but we don’t vote nationally. They were wrong in 2016. They’ve been wrong over and over and over again.”
