Sweet Grown Alabama unveils database consumers can use to find locally made products

Alabamians looking to buy local have a new tool at their disposal.

Sweet Grown Alabama has launched a searchable database which members of the public can use to search for locally grown products in their area.

“The mission of Sweet Grown Alabama is to connect farmers and families, and this database does just that,” said Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson.

Sweet Grown Alabama is a nonprofit branding program that is an offshoot of the Alabama Department of Agriculture.

In addition to searching for locally grown products nearby, consumers can search the new database by product like apples, milk or zucchini.

Over 100 products are listed as locally made in the database, including pork, candles, Christmas trees, quail, cantaloupe and shrubs.

“[W]e are excited to provide this service to consumers who have a heightened desire for local products during COVID-19,” added Watson.

A farmer or locally sourced market/restaurant that wants to be listed in the database can register on the Sweet Grown Alabama website, which also offers stories of local farmers and recipes to cook at home.

“When you purchase Sweet Grown Alabama products, you get better quality, better health benefits and help the state’s economy. You know who is growing your products and how they are being grown. It’s really a win-win for consumers and farmers,” advised Watson.

The database can be accessed here.
