The Sugar Bowl matchup in New Orleans between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Bulldogs was supposed to be played on Wednesday night, but the game was delayed until Thursday afternoon in light of the terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve in the city.
A battle for the right to advance to the Orange Bowl and College Football Playoff semifinal, it’s a game with massive implications but the decision makers opted for safety first, a likely sound strategy.

Statements were released from Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley saying that the delay was in the best interest of the teams, the fans, and the overall safety of the event as police suspected the possibility the attacker was not acting alone and there still could have been an ongoing threat in the city through Wednesday evening.
The game is now going to be played at 3:00 p.m. CST on Thursday afternoon and can still be seen on ESPN.
