State Senate District 9 special election qualifying now open

Qualifying for the Alabama Republican Party Special Election Primary in Senate District 9 officially opened this morning.

The seat opened up once former Senate Majority Leader Clay Scofield stepped down to take the position of executive vice president of the Business Council of Alabama (BCA).

District 9 consists of areas of Blount, Marshall, and Madison counties.

Those who hope to qualify for the Republican ballot can visit www.algop.org or they can stop by the ALGOP headquarters at 3505 Lorna Road in Birmingham, AL during the qualifying period which ends tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.

The Special Election Primary for the seat will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

If a run-off election is needed, it will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

The General Election will take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
