State Sen. Orr vows to bring bill allowing victims of political censorship to sue Big Tech platforms

Seemingly every other day, there is a story revealing how Big Tech companies have worked to censor individuals who voice a different point of view than what is held by those in charge of that platform, or as has recently been reported, who have views that are counter to the current administration to Washington, D.C.

Earlier this year, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) signed a bill into law that would give residents of his state protections from tech companies engaging in that behavior.

During an appearance on Huntsville radio WVNN’s “The Dale Jackson Show,” State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) said he intended to bring a bill in the Alabama Legislature in 2022 that was similar to the Florida law.

“[B]ig Tech is out of control when it comes to their censorship, political censorship,” he said. “And now that you see them being co-opted by the White House, how can they make an argument that they’re not in the can for one side or the other. And giving citizens the private right of action, like Florida did is the way to go — at least my initial research shows that. Yes, I will have a bill on this issue, and we fully need to debate it in Montgomery in our next regular session. ”
