State Rep. Brett Easterbrook (R-Fruitdale) was arrested Friday in Escambia County and charged with first-degree human trafficking and prostitution, according to jail records.
Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson confirmed that Easterbrook was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center. The jail log shows the arrest took place around 3:30 p.m. Easterbrook was released less than an hour after booking, and no bond information was listed.
First-degree human trafficking is a Class A felony in Alabama and carries a sentence of up to life in prison. Law enforcement has not released the allegations behind the charges.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama told Yellowhammer News they had no additional information to report.
The sheriff’s office said the arrest was part of a multi-day operation that also led to charges against two other public officials in South Alabama.
Satsuma City School Board President Kory Wesley is charged with first-degree human trafficking and attempting to elude law enforcement. Orange Beach Public Works Director Timothy Tucker is charged with prostitution.
Authorities said more information on the operation will be released.
Easterbrook has represented House District 65 since 2018, when he defeated incumbent Elaine Beech. The district includes Washington County. He serves as vice chairman of the House Insurance Committee.
Easterbrook did not qualify for re-election this year, and his term ends in November.
A court date has not been announced.
