State Auditor Andrew Sorrell and family welcome a third child: Justus

State Auditor Andrew Sorrell and wife Hannah Sorrell are welcoming a new child into the world.

The newborn boy arrived at 21 inches long and weighing eight pounds and four oz. at 1:40 p.m. on Friday.

He will go by his first name of Justus. The Sorrells have two daughters. Liberty is 3, and Glory is 2.

Many reports of thanks and praise went up from the Sorrell family and friends.

Last year, the Sorrells lost an unborn baby well into the pregnancy.

This time, there blessedly appeared to be no trouble. Justus was born in Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama.

Justus will not be a “Junior.” His father is named Justin Andrew Sorrell. Justin is the English form of Justinus, which derives from Justus.

Justus is a Latin name meaning “just” or “upright,” reflecting the qualities of righteousness and moral integrity. The name is rare in today’s United States but has historical significance.

In the Bible, “Justus” appears in several contexts. Joseph called Barsabbas, surnamed Justus, was considered to replace Judas (Acts 1:23),  Paul lodged with Titius Justus in Corinth (Acts 18:7), and “Jesus who is called Justus” is greeted in Colossians 4:11.

Historically, Justus of Canterbury was the fourth Archbishop of Canterbury, dying likely in 627.

Talk about a patriotic family – the children are Liberty, Glory and Justus.

The Sorrell children are already known as Young Republicans. They accompany their parents to GOP and state government events.

Andrew Sorrell was elected State Auditor in 2022. He had previously served one term in the Alabama House from Colbert County, elected in 2018. He was a Trump delegate to the 2020 Republican National Convention and was selected by the Alabama delegation as the State Chairman of the delegation. He delivered the unanimous vote of the Alabama delegation to Donald Trump.

Sorrell is not running for re-election as State Auditor, but instead opted to run for the open Secretary of State race in the May 19 Republican primary.
