House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter has appointed State Rep. Jeff Sorrells (R-Hartford) to chair the House Committee on Health, filling a vacancy created when State Rep. Paul Lee (R-Dothan) stepped down after being elected House Majority Leader.

Sorrells has represented House District 87, covering parts of Geneva and Houston counties, since 2018. A Hartford native, he previously served on the Hartford City Council and as mayor before his election to the House. He works as a banker and holds a business administration degree from Troy University.

“I am proud to appoint Rep. Jeff Sorrells to the House Committee on Health chairmanship,” Ledbetter said. “Having served on this committee for the last five years, Rep. Sorrells possesses the knowledge and relationships to ensure this vital committee continues to operate at a high level.”

Sorrells said he is committed to prioritizing Alabamians’ health interests in the role.

“This committee handles matters that directly impact the health and well-being of the people of Alabama,” Sorrells said. “I am grateful that Speaker Ledbetter has entrusted me to serve in this vitally important role and look forward to hitting the ground running.”
