After contentious legal proceedings spanning months, a plan to establish a cutting-edge surgical facility in Montgomery has been approved by the State Health Planning and Development Agency.
Designed by Southern Orthopedic Surgeons and the Southern Orthopaedic Surgery Center, the new facility will provide patients with an increased level of care and help to ensure better health outcomes. Once completed, the location will feature four fully equipped operating rooms, two specialized procedure rooms, and a state-of-the-art surgical robot for joint replacement procedures.
“We’re pleased that we can now move forward with building this innovative outpatient facility,” said SOS CEO Jenna Roton. “This will help thousands of residents of Central Alabama who need orthopedic procedures but don’t need to be treated at a full-service hospital.”
Dr. Perry Hooper of SOS also noted the facility’s potential to offer patients a higher level of care.
“The CON Board and staff thoughtfully considered the overall impact for orthopedic care in this region and agreed this is the future and provides the opportunity for our patients to have the best outcomes,” said Hooper.
The facility, according to SOS’ Dr. Roland Hester, will help provide the local community with an affordable and quality option for healthcare close to home.
“We’re grateful for the approval of the State Certificate of Need Review Board, and it affirms that we are focused on the future of healthcare,” said Hester. “Our patients live throughout the River Region and the ability to have procedures, post-surgery services, and physical therapy is how smart orthopedic practices will serve patients. We’re ready to move forward, focusing on better patient outcomes and cost savings for payers and patients alike.”
The facility is projected to open within the next two years at Halcyon Pointe Drive, located at the southeast corner of the intersection of I-85 and Taylor Road in Montgomery.
