The South Alabama Jaguars have secured bowl eligibility in their first season under new head coach Major Applewhite and are playing in one of the first bowl games of the season this Saturday, making the short drive up to Montgomery for the Integrated Solutions for Systems, Inc. (IS4S) Salute to Veterans Bowl.
The game will be played this coming Saturday evening, December 14, at 8:00 p.m. between the Jags and the Western Michigan Broncos of the MAC. Both teams will enter the matchup with records of 6-6 to narrowly secure eligibility, but it should be a great showdown.
Montgomery residents will better remember this game under its previous name of the Camellia Bowl. Since 2014, it has been played at the Cramton Bowl in the state’s capital city.
Last year, fans were treated to an instant classic but without a real rooting interest for locals as the Northern Illinois Huskies defeated the Arkansas State Red Wolves. This time around, with an in-state team team involved for the first time since the Jaguars made the game’s first edition a decade ago, it should be a big day for the city and the state.
The matchup can be viewed on ESPN.
