New photos offer a sneak peek inside the Alabama State House as construction moves toward completion ahead of lawmakers moving into the building for the 2027 legislative session.
The photos, provided to Yellowhammer News by Surepoint Strategies, show progress on several interior spaces as well as the exterior of the new legislative building in downtown Montgomery.
Construction on the new State House remains on schedule for lawmakers to move in ahead of next year’s session, according to a July progress update.

The roughly 460,000-square-foot building will give the Alabama House and Senate a new permanent home after decades in the current State House, a former Alabama Highway Department building that the Legislature began occupying in the 1980s.

Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger recently described the new building as something “the people can be proud of,” pointing to improved space for lawmakers, constituents and school groups visiting the Legislature.

The transition will coincide with the beginning of a new four-year term of state government. The Legislature is set to convene for its organizational session in January before the 2027 regular session begins Tuesday, Feb. 2.
