ESPN has named its 26-member All-America team for the unprecedented 2020 college football season, and six of the selections are from the University of Alabama.
The network wrote that the All-America squad’s “offense, not surprisingly, has a distinct Alabama flavor.”
Leading that unit as All-Americans are quarterback Mac Jones, running back Najee Harris, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, center Landon Dickerson and offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood.
Patrick Surtain II, at cornerback, was the only Crimson Tide defensive player named to the team by ESPN.
No Auburn Tigers made the squad. Florida tight end Kyle Pitts and LSU placekicker Cade York were the only other SEC players on the team.
The six Bama players honored with with ESPN’s All-America designation are also finalists for some of the nation’s top individual awards: Jones is up for the Davey O’Brien, Johnny Unitas, Manning, and Maxwell awards; Surtain is being considered for the Bednarik, Nagurski, and Thorpe awards; Smith is a finalist for the Biletnikoff and Maxwell awards; Dickerson is in the running for the Rimington; Leatherwood is contending for the Outland; and Harris could see himself winning the Doak Walker.
Additionally, Alabama kicker Will Reichard is a finalist for the Lou Groza award after going a perfect 85-for-85 this season (12 made field goals and 73 consecutive PATs).
