Shelton State has had a big last week in athletics, making huge accomplishments in multiple sports.
The Lady Buccaneers clinched the program’s first-ever National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II national title in women’s golf with a dominating performance at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone, Iowa.
They never trailed in an event at all and wound up winning the event by a staggering 34 strokes as four of their players finished within the top-20 overall with some incredible scores.
A total team score of 328 led by the performances of Ashlee Allen, Peyton Maraman, Katie Hallmark, Jordan Ransdell and Sawyer Hobbs brings the Lady Bucs the incredible accomplishment.
“There’s a lot of joy and excitement with winning a national championship. Our group has shared a special bond all season and been focused on achieving big goals, especially after being disappointed in the postseason last year,” said coach Chris Sanford. “Shelton State athletics prides itself on winning championships, and we’re trying to blend in and do our part. We hope this is the beginning of something special.”
If a huge women’s golf accomplishment wasn’t enough, the men’s baseball program also clinched its third consecutive trip NJCAA College World Series. The Buccaneers defeated LSU-Eunice 8-6 with a comeback victory in their best-of-three South District Championship.
Players such as Jackson Henderson, Mason Steele, Eli Driskell and John Michael Pickens have had huge years and carry Shelton State to the World Series which begins this weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado.
