Sewell: Deadline to apply for military service academy nominations is Saturday

There are just a couple days left to apply with U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell to be nominated to one of the country’s military service academies.

Sewell (D-Birmingham) said this Saturday is the deadline for graduating seniors within her congressional district to submit an application for a nomination.

“There is no greater act of patriotism than choosing to serve as part of our nation’s armed services, and I encourage all graduating seniors to consider pursuing an education at one of our United States military service academies,” Sewell said.

She then touched on the benefits that come from attending one of the academies.

“Attending a military service academy will not only jumpstart your career in the military, but it will also offer an invaluable opportunity to develop your leadership and interpersonal skills,” she said. “Making these appointments is one of my most satisfying duties as a member of Congress.

“Be sure to submit your application by November 18th!”

To be considered for an appointment to a military service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements and be a legal resident of the Seventh Congressional District.

Submissions must be received by Sewell’s Birmingham office by U.S. mail and postmarked no later than Nov. 18. Applications should be mailed to:
