U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is warning Democrats of the possible consequences if they continue to vote against opening the federal government.
A majority of the Democrats in the Senate have voted thirteen times against a clean continuing resolution that would fund the government through November.
While Republicans currently have a majority in the Senate, they have been unable to overcome the 60 vote threshold to avoid a filibuster.
Tuberville told Fox Business’ “Kudlow” this week that maybe it’s time for the GOP to considering nuking the filibuster to open up the government.
“The Democrats have voted 13 times to shut their government down, 13 times not to pay our veterans, not to pay our troops, and to cut snap cards,” Tuberville said. “I mean, this is the Democrats, and so we’re going to have to probably Larry to end of the day if they continue to just say, Listen, it’s all about politics. We don’t care about the American people. We’re not going to pass anything. We’re going to have to bust a filibuster.”
The senator admitted that he hope it doesn’t come to that.
That’s what’s going to have to happen,” he added. “And I hate to say that I’m not one to do that, but at the end of the day, if we ever lose the Senate, they’re going to do it anyway.”
