Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) announced that the Alabama Department of Environmental Management has approved an additional $1 million in funding for the City of Good Hope to complete a wastewater infrastructure project after construction bids exceeded original estimates.

The Cullman County legislative delegation had previously secured $3.3 million in ADEM grants for the project in 2023, but bids came in more than $1 million over the city’s estimated cost, a gap Gudger attributed to inflation hitting construction projects.

Gudger said he arranged a meeting in Montgomery between Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett and ADEM Director Edward Poolos to discuss the shortfall. He confirmed the additional funding at a Good Hope City Council meeting.

“This $1 million grant will help us build for the future and without it we couldn’t unless we put the city a million dollars in debt,” Bartlett said. “We really appreciate Senator Garlan Gudger and our legislative delegation helping our city and the people of Good Hope.”

The Cullman County delegation also includes State Reps. Heath Allbright, Cindy Myrex, and Tim Wadsworth.
