This year, Senator Tommy Tuberville brought national attention to the Biden administration’s illegal and immoral abortion policies. He has stood unapologetic in his courageous commitment to expose and stop the administration’s radical agenda and deserves our praise and admiration.
For nearly 40 years the Department of Defense (DOD) has been prohibited by law from paying for elective abortions, a prohibition that has always included expenses necessitated by the abortion, like travel expenses. Flagrantly ignoring longstanding law, Secretary Lloyd Austin instructed the DOD to use taxpayer dollars to pay travel expenses for elective abortions – not only for servicemembers, but for their dependents including spouses and children as well.
The Biden-Harris administration clearly put the abortion lobby’s interest ahead of our own servicemembers by paying for abortion travel. In contrast, the same administration has refused to fund a servicemember’s travel and time off to attend their family members’ funeral. The backwards priorities of this administration are obvious, and Tuberville has exposed them to the American people.
There’s a reason the Democrats choose institutions like the U.S. military to insert their radical pro-abortion agenda. They know it would never fly at the ballot box. A year out from the Dobbs decision, nearly half the country – 24 states – protects unborn children in the law. But the Biden administration doesn’t respect the will of the people, so they simply pick and choose the laws they want to enforce and impose their radical policies on everyone in the country.
The truth is, seven in 10 Americans want more protections for unborn children and their mothers, not fewer, and they have made it clear they overwhelmingly oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion domestically and abroad. Year after year, Congress, including Democrats, vote to continue the Hyde Amendment, which saves millions of lives by keeping taxpayer-funded abortion out of federal programs.
In stark contrast, Democrats like Vice President Harris and many others admit when pressed that there are zero limits on abortion they will ever support, at any time for any reason. That’s an extremely unpopular position.
Senator Tuberville warned Democrats that if they continued to break the law and ignore the will of the people by keeping this illegal DOD directive in place that he would place a hold on all DOD nominations. They ignored him. If people are looking for someone to blame for the months long military holds, they can look no further than Biden and Schumer who refused to abide by the law and roll back their illegal and immoral policy.
For months, Democrats chose to play politics over coming to the table to find a solution. Yet, Senator Tuberville stood strong in his convictions as a warrior for children in the womb and their mothers.
We are forever grateful to him for his bold pursuit to expose the Biden administration’s extreme abortion stance and their blatant disregard for the law. He is a true leader, and the people of Alabama should be proud and encouraged to know they have an ardent defender of life and the rule of law working for them in Congress.
