U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) appeared on FOX News’ “The Will Cain Show” to react to President Donald Trump’s Oval Office press conference announcing Space Command headquarters will move from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama.
“Space Command — what that is — it’ll be the headquarters for the military for anything that goes into space, whether it’s Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, anything. It’s not just one part of the military. It controls everything going into space,” Tuberville said.
As he did in the Oval Office yesterday, the Senator point out the cost-saving and national security angles of the decision, emphasizing Huntsville’s already existing infrastructure for the move.
“The next war, God forbid we have one, will be started and, probably, ended from space,” Tuberville said.
“Huntsville will do a great job. It will be very secure behind the wall in Redstone Arsenal. We will save half a billion dollars by moving from Colorado Springs to Huntsville.”
“It’s also a great place to live. There’ll be a lot of jobs, obviously, and the economy will be boosted, but at the end of the day, it’s all about national security, and it’s going to be a big part of the future for this country militarily.”
Tuberville, who is currently running to be Alabama’s governor, briefly spoke at Trump’s press conference and floated a potential name for the coming facility.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for this, and we look forward to building a huge Space Command and having the Donald J. Trump Space Command Center in Huntsville, Alabama,” Tuberville said in closing, drawing applause and a ‘hear, hear!’ from Sen. Katie Britt.
