Sen. Tuberville: $70,000 is the taxpayer cost for each illegal immigrant in the U.S. per year – ‘They gotta go home’

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has been a consistent and vocal advocate for stronger immigration enforcement since taking office in 2021.

On Sunday, Tuberville joined The Cats Roundtable with John Catsimatidis to discuss President Donald Trump’s ongoing push to curb illegal immigration and crack down on the crime it brings.

“President Trump is trying to pull a rabbit out of his hat and get our country back going again, which is very hard to do after the Democrats have run it into the ground for the past four years,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) said.

“But a big part of that is immigration. We’re starting to put the wall up. We’ve got the money from the Big, Beautiful bill. $150 billion. We’re hiring more ICE agents and Border Patrol.”

Tuberville explained the current annual cost of harboring illegal immigrants, noting the substantial increase in self-deportations.

“We’re having to pay from the taxpayer’s money. $70,000 a year per illegal that’s within our borders. We can’t afford it. They gotta go home. What hasn’t been said a lot is that we’ve had over a million illegals say, I want to go home. If you’ll pay my way home, I’ll go home and thank God they’re doing it. Over a million have gone. President Trump and ICE are after the criminals and the cartels that are here, the drug sales, and human trafficking.”

Tuberville cited a recent law enforcement operation in Alabama as an example.

“Even in my home state of Alabama, last week we had a raid on a Mexican restaurant that had cartel drug lords, people that were human trafficking,” he said. “It was a huge bust.”

According to Tuberville, many of the issues agents face while enforcing immigration law are a direct result of liberal policies, particularly in places like Los Angeles.

“The problem that we’re having in blue states is paid protestors are fighting ICE agents, and it’s very, very dangerous. Throwing bricks and rocks. We even have gunshots going off. It’s just absolutely amazing to me that we allowed this to happen.”

Since his career in the Senate began, Tuberville has introduced pieces of legislation to fight against the onslaught of illegal immigrants  including the Border Safety and Security Act and the Stopping Border Surges Act. Both bills were introduced during the 118th Congress.
