WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alabama U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions does not think that he is the guy that GOP Presidential front-runner Donald Trump will pick to be his running mate.

“I think that would not happen,” Sen. Sessions told D.C. outlet The Hill. “I have not talked with him about it.”

Talk of a Trump-Sessions ticket has been in existence since the populist Alabama politician became the only sitting member of the U.S. Senate to endorse Trump.

“Don’t bet any money on me,” Sessions added.

In his initial endorsement of the New York billionaire, Sessions said “This isn’t a campaign, this is a movement…Politicians have promised for 30 years to fix illegal immigration… Donald Trump will do it. You have known for years these trade agreements have not been working.”

Sessions has been an outspoken supporter of Trump’s hard-line immigration and trade policies. Earlier this year, Sessions was tapped to lead Trump’s National Security Advisory Committee.

“It is an honor to have Jeff as a member of the team,” said Trump. “I have such great respect for him and I look forward to working with him on the issues most important to Americans.”

In an interview with the Washington Post last month, Trump said he wants “somebody that can walk into the Senate and who’s been friendly with these guys for 25 years, and people for 25 years. And can get things done. So I would 95 percent see myself picking a political person as opposed to somebody from the outside.”

Trump will not likely name a running-mate anytime soon, as the nomination is still contested.
